We offer certain waste removal services to people living in informal housing.
Plastic bag collection and cleaning services
If you live in an informal settlement, we will provide two blue waste bags per week as well as collection and litter picking/cleaning services to your household.
How does the service work?
Every week, we will come door-to-door and collect your full bags, as well as give you two new ones. To help create jobs, contractors recruit people from the
subcouncil database within the community to help with street cleaning and litter removal.
Tips for blue bag users
- If you miss the contractor’s collection day, take your bag to the shipping container or the waste storage area (the contractor’s collection point).
- Don’t leave your full bags on the ground or any place dogs or rats will be able to open them.
- Don’t dump your waste in canals or open areas. This is
illegal dumping. It's not only ugly, but is a health hazard and expensive to remove.
